A part might be technically correct, but using the wrong packaging format can still cause manufacturing problems. For example, a contract manufacturer with automated pick-and-place equipment may need tape-and-reel material with a specific orientation. A prototype team may only need a small amount in cut tape. This is the most common format for high-volume surface-mount assembly because it feeds directly into pick-and-place machines.

For production, your contract manufacturer might need a certain reel size, feeder format, or orientation. Get these requirements before sending out the RFQ.
